Glorifying God Through Contemporary Biblical Fine Art
Our Mission
Through contemporary visual fine art, our mission is to lead people to Jesus Christ, share the “good news” of the Gospel, and provide opportunities and a safe environment for visual artists to showcase their interpretation of Biblical scripture and themes.
Our desire is that:
The “body of faith” is increased through the surrending of lives to Jesus Christ and in accordance to God’s will and purpose.
People are empowered to confidently and boldy profess their faith in God through visual arts and/or through whatever channel God has led them to use.
Relationship with Jesus Christ grows and becomes strong.
Visual artists create and dedicate their work to the glory of God.
Impact in the Art World
AGAF seeks to negate the notion that contemporary visual art needs to be secular, by confronting what is considered “modern” or not and what is considered “contemporary” or not.
Christian Art is Also Modern & Contemporary
The art world’s view of Christian or faith-based art has changed over time. Traditionally, it was collected for worship but is now considered marginal and therefore, relegated to being considered antiquated, anecdotal, and contrived. It is overlooked and not considered to be modern or contemporary enough for fine art galleries and museums that make up today’s art market. As a result, visual artists desiring to create faith-based works often yield to trends dictated by galleries and curators, by creating art works that are commercial and “acceptable” to those controlling the market from the top.
Faith-based fine art can absolutely be modern and contemporary. There are many visual artists who create highly technical and creative faith-based visual art with unique approaches, perspectives, and use of materials; and, therefore deserve the opportunity to be represented in the fine art market.
